i'm interested in getting a penn-plax tank terrace ornament to provide shade for my cories.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=330089541379

my concern is whether the surface of the terrace is too rough for the cories' barbels and bellies. can someone who has used this before offer some advice please?

I assume the product is plastic, so it's probably safe. You could e-mail Penn-Plax directly. Grab the e-mail address at the bottom of this page.

If you do buy it, let me know how it looks. Unfortunately a lot of those plastic ornaments look really, really cheap/bad in the aquarium. I know they do look better once they get a nice layer of aquarium slime on theme, but I usually prefer ceramic myself.

I'm sure a company like Penn-plax would not put their bussiness on the line
by creating a product that harms aquatic life.

i don't know if you read my original post clearly, but my concern is whether the surface of the terrace is too rough for the cories' barbels and bellies, not for aquatic life in general.

Yeah I noted your concern. That's really a judgment call. If your contact them, they will probably say yes it's safe. But realistically, unless the person who answers is really familiar with Cories, then I really wouldn't trust their answer. Obviously you're hoping other readers might know, I'm just not sure how likely it is another reader might have used this particular product with Cories. Given the price, it might be easiest to just purchase the item and decide for yourself.

Sorry, just some things to consider.

I saw this item at a Superpetz (US chain store) yesterday. celaeno, I don't know if you have one of these stores in your area but I would assume they would mostly stock the same items. You could get a first-hand view and make the call yourself. :)

Edit:

Strike what I said. I see that Superpetz doesn't have any presence in New York.
