Well their not an easy fish, yes their egg scatters and they prefer soft water.
you need a dedicated tank to do this and need to think of what foods u need to try to rear the fry, micro worm, brine shrimp and lovely stuff like that..
a large breeding tank is needed due to the number of eggs laid (around 1000, most of which will reach adult in a tank).
The water should be soft and on the acidic side (ph5.5) so peat filtration etc is a must.
The tank should have fine leafed plants or spawning mops to catch the large number of eggs.
Females will have a very rotund belly due to the large number of eggs. After spawning the parents should be removed and a 50% of the water should be changed due to the large amount of spermatozoa released by the male which could cause water quality problems.
The eggs will hatch within 24 hours and the fry should be fed infusoria for the first few weeks then move on to baby brine shrimp, daphnia and crushed flake.
