Penguin Bio Wheel Filter Loud

My Aqua Clear filter on my 30 gal. tank stopped working on me the other day after only 2 months. I was hesitant to get another one so I bought the Marineland Bio Wheel 150. It is really noisy. Makes a vibrating noise. I took the impeller out and in again and didn't help. Figured it maybe needed to break in. I unplugged it today as it only got worse. Anyone else experience this or did I get a defective one ?

I have on it now an Aqua Clear filter that is only rated up to 15 gallons (has mature media in it), and I added a powerful bubbler. How many days can I leave the tank this way ?

What filter do you recommend ?
