Penguin bio wheel 350 question

Does anyone know what the best way to run this filter? Do I keep the top open all the way, half or closed!?

I run my Penquin 200 with it closed so all water inputs from the lower part of the tank.

Does it loose alot of drag when I keep the top open just as much as I have it now? And thanks for the input

the amount it is open in your photo is very small. That should be fine. I wouldn't be concerned.
