Peat Pellets

I removed the carbon from my filter pad, soaked two pellets in hot water for an hour and placed them in the filter open side up to keep particles out of my water much as possible. Then I just slid the cartridge in my filter and let the water do the work. I don't know what brand they are,I got them off of ebay. Got 50 for like $8. My angelfish have never been more active. :kana: The water is barely stained. You can't really see it unless you know it's there.

Hello and thanks for answering all my questions. I'm just wondering if this is what you used ??????

Thanks Robb

Learned this from the School of HardKnocks University On-Line: Do not put loose peat into a cheesecloth bag and put it in your filter. :p

I bought some (think it was fluval brand, loose stringy stuff) peat, figured wrapping it up in cheesecloth before i put it into my filter would keep larger particles out of my water and make it easier to change out later. This was before I discovered this forum, so I didn't have anybody to ask specific questions.

When it came time to change out the filter pad, the cheesecloth had rotted away except for some larger strands, peat was "everywhere" as I lifted the filter pad out, made one large yukky mess. Didn't affect the fish any, just looked nasty, took a little while to clean up. :sly:

Lesson learned: You will now occasionally find me in the ladies section at Wal-Mart, perusing the cheap nylon stocking section. (The things I will do for my fish!) ;)

Now thats is been a while how are the levels doing? Is all still well in your tank? Hope so. I'll be setting up a 55 gallon this week and thought I see how things were with you.
