I have two pearl Gouramis in my tank along with

Neon tetras
Red Tail BS
Danios
Catfish

Total 8 fish 75 Litre tank

I placed more live plants in the the tank today and was moving things about

Once I did this I noticed on one the gouramis going to the bottom of the tank and the other one started to nip it (or looked like it was doing that....)

They have been going to the bottom of the tank and nibbling away at the gravel ...

They appear to be eating OK despite the danios seemingly getting in their first

Is the addition of adding the plants helping them also I read in another post about a feeding pattern....... What does that mean?

They usually stay either at the top or middle of the tank so I'm worried they are at or near the bottom

I don't over feed and give them either peas or flakes.......

I am concerned incase this behaviour is the beginning of illness...

Sorry If I'm rammbling

Thanks

im sorry but your tank is too small for both of the pearls.its even too small for 1.what are your water results?

A single Pearl is okay in a 20 gallon, and a pair could even work provided they are the only fish in the tank other than maybe some corys and a snail. Even though they're smaller, Danios actually need a bigger tank because they like to swim.

Anyway, which fish is nipping which? Is it the male doing the nipping, is their any damage or does it look like they hang out sometimes? I have a pair with an OPaline female & they all kinda chase each other with the big Pearl female being the biggest wimp & the Opaline female being the boss. The male Pearl does chase both of them but the Oplaine feamle chases back. They all nip at each other but they cause no damage, it's just their nature to hunt each other playfully.

Sorry for the delay in both replies......

After reading all posts of advice re- space and whats needed for my fish. I am now in the process of cycling my new 200L tank......

I would say I have both male and female as the colours on the male are more prominent (redish) on his front.. He mainly chases the female esp when bottom feeding (which I didn't realise Gouramis did), after a wee chase they seem to be fine... I must admit they are spectacular to watch...

My water parameters in the current tank have leveled off ... PH 7.2 ... Ammonia ..0ppm ... and Nitrates seem to remain below 40ppm.. I think I was worrying about the nitrates too much, after much much reading and asking I have come to the conclusion that there are many opinions, some of which not so good..... so I have found a happy medium... Doing weekly water changes and testing all good...

Can you advise about best type of aquarium plants to use for coverage at the top of the tank????

Looking forward to my new tank ... Away now to read up on fishless cycling .....

Thanks
