My male pearl gouramis has some weird markings on him.
I have two Pearls one male and one female. The female used to be smaller then the male but now she's really fat and the male seems to be smaller. There behavior hasn't changed the male still chases the female around the tank. (33 Gallon)
I started to notice a problem when my male had a white mark on his long feeler fine (not ick) so I monitored it not really sure if it was just an injury. Now he's got the same kind of white stuff on his right fin and on the body under his right fin he has some discoloration. You can only see this at the right angle from behind he looks like the scales are roughed up and from the side it’s a dark patch.
I have no clue what this is. I've treated the tank for a week with melefix and I've added the recommended amount of salt to the tank to help the slim coat. My water quality is good I tested it a week ago and everything was great.

Help?
Christine

Whats in my tank:
2 platies
5 head tail light tetra
4 red eye tetra
1 tomasai (spelling?)
2 pearl gouramis

My tank is also planted.

I have a 33 Gal Tank, sorry I don't have my water specs right now. When I get home tonight I'll do another check on everything and post it. Last time I checked it was all good. That was about two weeks ago. I've done a water change since then. The problem has been ongoing for almost a month now.
It's kind of white and fussy on his fin. And also it looks like his one long feeler fin is dying where the white mark was.

sheesh these fish... I wish they would just stay healthy

If the feeler fin is dying i would get him on antibiotic straight away can you issolate the fish.

I don't have an isolation take at this time. I have a spare ten gal but no equipment for it (filter, heater, gravel...) Should I start it up? if so whats the best way to go about setting up a hospital tank?

You don't need a filter as antibiotics will wipe the bacteria colony out, but you will need a heater, just add water to the tank from the main tank, add a bit of new declorinated water as well, a few hiding spaces and that's it really, just remove waste and debris with a net, keep an eye on water stats, if you have to do a water change add correct amount of meds back to the water removed, good luck.
