Pearl Gourami - White Spot

Hi

I have a Pearl Gourami that has just started to show a white patch on top of its head. I have seen Cotton type fungal infection before abut am wondering if it is a Finrot. Now I have just checked the water params and all ok apart from Nitrate which was 50 ppm. This is obviously high and I do weekly water changes of 15 ltrs for 125 ltr tank. So first of all I have have changed the water again (15 ltrs) and will do another partial tomorrow morning but in the meantime I am not sure what the infection is. I havea separate tank to treat but not sure exactly what I should treat it for at this point. Anyone any thoughts - I should point out that this fish was treated for Finrot back in Feb 2006. I am also using a UV Sterliser and external filter on a Juwel Rio 125 - the internal filter is also still going !!

Usually white patches that present them selves on the head region is columnaris, does it look like a greyish white spot with a circling of red around the edges, or a red spot in the centre of it.

Thanks for the response. Well it isn't that big that I can see any red or grey but I guess that is what it is. Is this curable with med and if so which one. Iguess I need to start medicating straight away !?

Seems to me that that is what he has ! I only have Myxazin to hand so will need to get the other med tomorrow if he's still alive It's a real shame as he has been in the tankl for some time now and growing well ! I guess the issue is around the Nitrate levels which for some reason have got very high. Will get med first thing and see what happens !

I had that spot on a guppys sadly was never able to cure it, i would add the myxazin and also get some anti fungus and finrot med by interpet.
But you will have to increase aeration with two meds, you might stand a chance as i didn't know then that sometimes you have to mix two meds for columnaris.
