Hello,
I am rather worried about one of my longest serving fish, "King Dave" the Pearl Gourami. He has been a consistent feature of my tank for about five or six years, but has recently been afflicted with cataracts and a fungal infection. While the fungal infection (I assume it was that - he was covered in a white fuzz) cleared up, I think he has become completely blinded. The cataracts seem to have faded, but he struggles to navigate around the tank and hides when I turn the light on (I've stopped turning it on).
He has no longer has an interest in eating, and is bullied by the other fish (he used to be the bully). I'm not a professional, so I have no information on the quality of the water. All I can note is that the other fish are sprightly and energetic, and my tank hasn't faced a death in quite some time.
Is there anything I can do to help him? Or is it just old age?
Thanks,
Tudball
