USA,
I have decided to get some of the real peacocks, not the OBs even though they are nice, they are hybrids.

I want to know if it would be okay to keep 1 male and two females of each of the 4 groups of peacocks in a 75 gallon tank. Would I be able to keep more than that? I like the males the most, but I dont mind keeping females either. I am not sure what kind I want yet, but I did see some lovely ones at PETsMART tonight. My PETsMART takes great care of their fish, btw, as so many dont. all the pet stores take great care of the fish, even Wal Mart.

I do like A. korneliae though. Also, can they be kept with Synodontis eupterus?

Since you don't like hybrids forget about keeping multiple species of Aulonocara, unless you go with an all male tank. Females of the different varieties are very similar, and crossbreeding is pretty much a guarantee. It can work if you don't plan on raising any of the fry though.

They should do fine with the syno's.

well, I never had a problem with the hybrids, the forum does. Plus the OB's cost to much.

well, what about in a 55 then?

Crossbreeding between different strains of Aulonocara are technically not hybrids!!!

They are considered manmade strains. This is how many of the color varieties came to be!!

Keep one very important thing in mind tho..............

When breeding different Aulonocara you will usually end up with drab often very ugly fish!!

It takes much trial and error before breeders hit on the right combination of species to get a new varient.

It also take many generations and culling to get it right!!

I dont care if they breed. I just like their colors

I understand you "don't care" if they breed, but I thought it important to explain how many of the varients came into the hobby.

Many Aulonocara are also "line bred" to expand on the colors already evident in the particulat strain.

Here is a short explaination some may find interesting.....Aulonocara

I think your better off going to an all male tank if your going with peacocks as cross breeding would occur and you can't keep a lot of species because your male peacocks will be very agressive....Also if you want more info on africans and the different species, go to cichlid-forum.com for good info on all cichlids....
