Hi ^_^

I have brought a new tank, initially to re- house my Angel fish; he grew out of his old home which he occupied with Neon Tetras, I read that Angel fish eat Neon Tetras, so I will keep the Neon Tetras in the smaller tank.

Now I have a larger tank and not enough fish to stock it out, one fish to be precise. I am interested in getting a couple of Peacock Spiny Eels, possible about 2 maybe 3. At the moment I have set the tank up with large polished stones but I am wiling to add sand in order to give the eels a comfortable home.

Could I still keep some of the polished stones, so that I may build up an area at the back of the tank and provide structural support for the plants? I have a 2 piece large ship that they could hide in and a plane.

Also what girth do they grow to, I had a Clown Barb that got himself stuck in one of the holes on a previous ship in the smaller tank, I managed to cut him free, I don’t really want to go through all that again, it was quite stressful for the Barb and me, I could make the holes larger to prevent them from getting stuck, if this was going to be a problem.

Also what other fish do you think would make good editions to my tank? My tank holds 57 gallons and is 1000mm in length, 570 in depth and 380 in width.

Thanks for any help

Sounds like a nice sized tank for a PSE :)

Is it a Jewel tank? Only, I had one of these particular eels in a Jewel Rio 180 about a year ago and he was fine until he managed to get himself into the filter and wriggled into the pump where he was horribly mutilated :-( (he died the next day from his injuries).
The lesson there is; make sure your filter has no gaps large enough for an eel to get through!

Sand is a very good choice for eels as they like to bury themselves in the substrate, sand is ideal because it does not scratch their skin (which can lead to infection).

PSEs like lots of places to hide, and shady places (artificial plants for example). A plant pot turned on it's side is a good hiding place for a Peacock Spiny Eel :)

Most large, non-aggressive fish would be good with PSEs such as Congo Tetras, Severums, Silver Dollars and Pims (pimelodus pictus)

Good luck with your eels!

Not quite sure why it has quoted my original posts

Thanks for your reply :good:

I have a Cleair Tank, I personally have never owned this particular make. At the moment I use an external filter system and I will proberly do the same for this tank. However, I will have to save my pennies for this, so I may hold off on the purchase of the PSE whilst the internal filter system is in use.

What do you think on the idea of keeping some of my polished stones in the tank though?

The external filter sounds fine! :good:
As do the polished stones, I can't see any problems arising from them! :)
