:/ hmm, ok. So I've just noticed my parrotfish has been picking up gravel with it's mouth on the right hand corner of the tank and been dropping it onto the side of the glass so now there is something that resembles a ditch in the tank :S

He was doing it non stop yesterday for about 2 hours and he's doing it every so often today, not quite as bad as it was yesterday at doing it. Anyone know why it's doing this?

I don't know very much about parrots, but aren't they building a nest so to speak?

Given that these are man-made hybrids, it is difficult to interpret behaviour. However, generally speaking, cichlids do like to move substrate around. It could be related to breeding behaviour but I'm not sure they they can breed in the first place.

Them being hybrids has nothing to do with it.. ANYWAYS.. parrot cichlids will often move gravel around to establish their territory, it can also be associated with spawning. As someone already stated, lots of cichlids will move gravel around as they see fit.

normal behaviour as already said.

my parrot fish moves substrate and plants around and makes his own den.sometimes takes him hours to get done what he wants! :D
