Hi all...How're you doing?

I guess I'm the newest member here.
This look likes a good forum and people seem nice too

My first question is anyone know how to breed parrot fish?
My parrot fishes lay a lot of eggs but these eggs never hatch and are rotten after few days.

Thanks and regards.

Sonny.

:hi: Sonny! There are a lot of great people here to help you in any situation! Unfortunatly, I'm not one of those people who has experince with parrot fish, but I know there's a lot of experts who would be able to help you!

Hi there Sonny! I also know next to nothing about parrot fish. Try posting in the Breeding section, here.
HTH :)

:hi: to the forum.

I hope you find the answer to the question, though I can tell you right now that they succumbed to fungus and that you might ahve to move the eggs and retard the light that the eggs are subjected to.

I hope you have fun here and that you join our school.

Welcome. I am no expert but I just read somewhere while doing some research on parrots that they are sterile because they are hybrids. But you cant beleive everything you read either

Doggfather...I love that Bundy picture

I think my parrot fishes are laying eggs again, they started to lock their mouths. If there is a chance, your guys should observe the breeding process of parrot fish, it's very fascinating. First, they kind of lean onto each other and swim closely in a small perimeter close to a flat vertical surface of a rock or seashell. After a couple of hours, they start to lock their mouths (just like Siamese fighting fish while fighting), while mouths are locking, the male pushs the female so that her belly is against the flat surface for a few second and a couple of white eggs are deposited on the surface. Then they release their mouth, maybe rest for 1 or 2 minutes then start the mouth locking process again, this will go on for almost a day and I never get bore watching them (they are not shy but please don't disturb them like knocking on the tank, it will scare them). Each time, the female lays about 200 eggs (I actually counted it :D )

After all the eggs are laid, both parents will guard their eggs very closely and aggressively. Any other fish comes close will be attack and chase away even with the much larger fishs.

That's all for my experience because after a few days, the eggs start to turn green and release from the rock surface. The parents still guard until the last eggs is gone. God...I really want to see hww they will be hatched.

Have a good one, eveybody...

Sonny.
