Parrot Cichlids

At a very good fish store, kinda near my house, they have a bunch of parrot cichlids. none of them are dyed, and they have a whole lot of albinos. I'm getting a bigger tank soon. So, what other types of fish can live with them? Since they're a hybrid, even though they are South American, can Electric Yellows live with them. They are african cichlids. Thanks.

might wanna move this to the hybrid forum...but to answer your question i dont think it is a good idea to put parrots with electric yellows...

They can live with larger fish such as common plecos, oscars, severums etc who can defend them selves.

A wise question. All those large cichlids and plecos will work, but prepare for a very large tank if you want it to work for any worthwhile amount of time.

My parrot cichlids killed my oscars... but haven't touced my electric yellows.. I think they saw the oscars as a threat and killed both of them... the electric yellows are smaller then my oscars, so that's the only thing I can think of...

Severums, sometimes convicts, festivums, maybe keyhole cichlids, texas cichlids...

It would be a good idea to find out what temperment your parrots have before you start buying lots of tankmates... some parrots are nice, while others are terorrs... I've never had a severum and a parrot fight before, so that's probably your safest bet.

Tank size does factor in a lot.... parrots can grow to 8''

Would a 90-125 gallon be ok? I'm talking U.S gallons.

I wouldn't put an oscar with a jellybean parrot.... my regular parrots killed my oscars... jellybeans are even more aggressive.

90 or 125? Ones a 4 foot tank, ones a 6 foot tank, and it makes a big difference. In the 125 you can get away with a lot more.

Ok then, what parrot cichlids are ok to put with oscars? What about blood parrots?

Twas my blood parrots that killed my oscars... I had 2 oscars in with 3 parrot cichlids. The oscars were 2 and 3 inches, while the parrot cichlids were 2''.... Within a week I had 2 dead oscars. Tank was 75g...

If you buy lil guys you should have better chances... If you can find 1'' parrots and maybe 2'' oscars you might have better luck then I did...

U can put 1 Flower Horn and few Parrot fishes together.

Ya, but I wanna oscar. If I couldn't, I'd ask the fish store if they could supply Flowerhorns, but what about Green Terrors, or Jack Dempsy Cichlids? They sell those at alot of fish stores around my house. Though, A World of Fish has Oscars and Parrots in the same tank, maybe I should get two from the same tank.
