Ok - So my dad has a Cichlid tank in the cycling process, and is aiming to have the fish from the Lake Malawi im just wondering what lake the parrots are from?

And can they with-stand high PH like the other cichlids as he has alot of oceon rock.

(If they are not from the Lake Malawi and we got a pair, would they fight with the other fish from lake malawi)

Thanks.

blood parrots, which i'm assuming you are referring to are a hybrid, man made fish and therefore aren't found in the wild,
admittedly some people do keep these with malawis but IMO they are better suited to being kept in a american themed tank.

There's the blood parrot, which as Davo said is a man made hybrid. I wouldn't recommend mixing them with mbuna (can't comment on haps) as they will likely get bullied, and will definitely get out-competed for food. Blood parrots can be pretty aggressive, but mbuna are fast and aggressive, while it may have worked for some people, IMO it's not a good mix.

There there's the Green Parrot (Hoplarchus psittacus) they reach 15" and prefer soft water.

Edit: forgot to add that h.psittacus is a riverine species from South America, and blood parrots are a mixture of South/Central American species.

Its parentage is unknown, but the most commonly speculated pairings are midas cichlid (Amphilophus citrinellus) with the redhead cichlid (Cichlasoma synspilum), or the severum (Heros severus) with the red devil cichlid (Amphilophus labiatus).[sup][[/sup]
