I've been looking for a larger tank for my oscar for quite some time now, and today my mom said she knew a lady who had two 75 gallons that she wasn't using. Then she asked, if the lady was willing to sell them, would I want two tanks that big!!
I never in my life thought that she might actually let me get both of them! In fact, I'm shocked by the simple fact that she volunteered that information in the first place. I used to have to sneak new fish and tanks into the house when she wasn't looking, and now she's offering to try to get me two 75 gallons?? :hyper:

How about you guys? Are your families supportive of your interest in fishkeeping? :)

I had 35 gallon tank setup in my room for nearly 8months before my dad found it! And ever since he has been interested. He even helped my clean out the used 45 when I got it home, and helped my put together a stand. lol and the entire time i was trying to hide that I had fish, now he loves them. He wants me to move my 35 gallon barb tank out of my bed room so he can enjoy it as well

My mom goes between wishing I didn't have the tanks to giving me advice on what would look good in my tank, or pointing out tanks in the paper... I think she'd be even better if we didn't have to worry so much about the money involved (i.e. electricity, water, fish food...) I use my own money, but money is super tight around my house -_-

My parents live 7 hours away from me. Although they seem supportive (and I think they really are) when they come out to visit, it's very obvious that they think I'm completely nuts. :)

You're not alone there! My parents think I'm completely insane... but at least they're now somewhat supportive of my insanity. I guess they figure if they can't beat it, they might as well fuel it.

My wife is cool with it. I have kept fish since I was a kid so she knew it was part of the package.

When we started dating I had a 20 gallon, then I bought a 35 hex when we moved in together. We got married and rented a bigger place, that's when the fun started.

I always told her once I had the room we'd be getting a bigger tank. Well we did, she was a little overwhelmed when she saw the 110 I came home with instead of that "It's a 55 gallon, 3 feet wide"

Now there is this 6 foot by 6 foot monster in the living room and the 35 hex with the lobster.

My wife even has her own fish, and sometimes I even let her feed it. As if you can actually feed a pleco....... :hey:

My husband like the tank...as long as he can pick out a few fish! Although he threatens that the tank must go if I ever want a dog! *grrrrr*

my parents support fishkeeping... they just don't support me spending all my money on fish. My boyfriend doesn't understand at all how I could spend £69 on a plec... he also thinks I'm nuts because when he asks how I am I give him the rundown on all the fish and gerbils. My housemates like the fishies, just not the noise the external filter makes. They like my 180litre Juwel tank though because it's quiet and the black finish is smart.

my dad doesnt give a damn wen i go 2 buy a new fish hes sayin after 5 secs hurry up there all the same pfft i spend 5 dollars on a fish and he says wat a waste of money could o bought a cheap one but 5 $$ is cheap oh well maybe heel change his mind wen i buy my oscar tank and my oscar that i will name osar :p

My dad loves watching my little guppies zoom around the tank. He's very supportive and always takes me to the LFS when I need to go. And he pays for most of my stuff too. :D

Mum likes watching the fish, and she genuinely cares about their welfare, so she occaisionally takes me to the LFS. But she HATES the fuss I create over them. And she especially hates it when I make a mess. Which is bad for her since I'm treating a gup for fin rot right now. (Damn that dirty LFS water! ) When I did a water change this arvo, I got a drop or two of water on the carpet and she pounced. Then, I added some promethyasul for the rot (for those who don't know, it's a great all-round med wich is dark blue and stains anything it touches) and spilt some on the table my tank is on... I swear if I had poured cold water over my mum then, steam would've come off....

I'm not sure whether I count as parent or fishkeeper here.

It started with my 8-year-old nagging for a pet, but now I'm the one doing all the reading up and getting excited.

Only because her Dad's response was 'no, you can't, they're boring' and I thought this was such a pitiful argument (I
mean honestly!:flex: ), I just had to pitch in on her side. I told him it is not for him to decide on the entertainment value of other people's hobby (or his boring old stamp albums are for the dump!); also that this is going to be really educational, like having our own little David Attenborough set-up in the living room; also, that it is not going to cost much (ha!) or be any trouble (haha!)and that he is only being negative for the sake of it.

Having said that, we haven't even started with the fish yet, only half-way through the cycling, and he is already getting quite excited playing with his little chemistry set, I can see him coming round.... I have a feeling this is going to become his hobby.

My parents don't mind it, but they said for my marine tank that I could only have it on condition that I got a "nemo fish" for it.

I guess it's only fair but I know I will get sick of people coming into my room and saying "hey look it's nemo!".

Uh

SnowyAngel has an 11 inch pleco she can hand feed
I've seen her do it! amazing really. The fish swims upside down near the surface and grabs flakes and freeze dried foods.

I didn't think it was possible but she did it!
