Hi guys,

P1120793_VampireFish3a.JPG

I got a 5inch Vampire Fish Armatus species from my friend & I put the fish into my 3ft tank. everything is fine & alright but the only issue is the fish's fangs just left 1. Do not know how it is happen.

My question is, does the fangs will be growth again?

Thanks
Bam

My question is do you have any idea what size this fish gets?

Hydrolycus armatus is the famed fanged monster of the Amazon, achieving sizes in excess of a meter (see the tape) and reaching almost 40 pounds. Although they may look like a nightmare come to life, they are really every fisherman's dream. They strike like a peacock bass, run like a tuna and cap it off with wild acrobatic leaps like a tarpon.

This fish is a predator and will likely solve any stocking issues in your 3 ft tank before he outgrows it.

Have a read here http://www.tfhmagazine.com/details/articles/taming-the-untamablegiant-payara.htm

Thanks for your info TTA,

Yeah I'm aware about the fish can grow bigger after searching the info from internet. However for time being, I have to keep the fish in my 190L tank because that the only available tank I have currently. Actually my friend give to me to take care of the fish since he have to due of his transferable.

The fish also make me curious because after made some studied, it is looks like H. Scomb instead of Armatus as per my friend said.  What do you think guys?

However, the fish has just 1 fangs which is another missing without known. Does the fangs will be growth again?

Thanks
Bam

Nice fish, although id say im more of a bucktooth tetra guy myself

Yeah I'd say that's a Hydrolycus Scomberoides, so you should be alright with it only growing to about 30cm. It'll eat everything else in your tank though, even if they're bigger than him. This fish is not recommended to be kept with ANY other fish unless they're a lot larger than itself, or they're equally confident.
Yours is just a juvie at the moment so it'll be quite shy, but once he gets some confidence, your other fish better watch out

I'd happily take him off your hands though!

Thanks for your clarification Aviici mate.

You're true mate, the fish quite shy & I haven't seen it feeds yet so far. I put live worm, live shrimp, small fish but he still didn't go for it. How long probably he gets confident?

However, I start enjoy with this fish. ;) hehe..
