I have a 19L filtered set up which i had weather loaches and goldfish in. I wanted something a bit different and asked my local pet shop what else i could add to the tank. He said i could add paradise fish which are compatable with coldwater and tropical tanks. I bought a male and a female. Within a few weeks the male had killed off all my 3 goldfish and a weather loach. he female was very timid and hid from the male which constantly attacked her. I decided to get a bigger tank in which i could keep tropical fish. So took the paradise out of the tank and put them in a normal fish bowl until my tropical set up was ready. The female seemed to of got more comfidence being in the bowl and the male stopped being aggressive towards her. I put them in the new tank and they seem alot more happier. There is now also a peppered catfish. The male has showed no agression towards it. My problem is now i want to start adding more fish. I had ideas on what to add. I want about four sharks, 2 mollys and about 4 barbs. I think this would be reasonable for the tank size.
Does anyone know whether paradise fish can go back to their old ways? I really dont want the male attacking again. He is a beautiful fish but has this is my first tropical set up i am hoping adding more fish will be a good idea. I've heard that moving ornaments and etc around each time a add new fish stops them being territoirial. Does this actually work?
