Paradise Fish Lying On Gravel

I recently bought myself a paradise fish. He's in a 20 gallon with 12 tetras and a few corys. I havent seen any aggressive behavior towards anyone so far. He's active most of the time but sometimes I see him just resting on the gravel. He does it in an upright position and he doesnt appear sick or anything but I get the feeling somethin might not be right. Is this behavior normal at all? and by the way, i noticed at the store that most of the other paradise fish were resting upright on the ground, if that means anything.
