Hi all,

My 4ft tank, which will soon have 3 42" T8 tubes over it has a cover glass. I never thought about this before but I've reading a book and it says the cover glass needs to be kept really clean so to let as much light through as possible.

What exactly does this mean? I can't see the glass getting dirty, about from condensation, so will I have to wipe it all every few days? Is it worth leaving the cover partially open? I cannot remove the glass panes but I can leave them in a position where half the tank area would be open to air.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Anything between the lamps and the water will absorb/reflect some light. Clean glass is not that much of a problem. If the glass gets dirty or has limescale etc. on it, then they should be cleaned.

And if its limescale you can use diluted vinegar on a towel to wipe it off.
