Thought I'd post up a few pics of my Panda Garras and Amano Shrimp for your delectation...

First off...

Both of my Pandas patrolling the tank floor.

Rasping algae from a rock. (One of my Zebra Loaches is trying to muscle in on the act!)

Meal over, now basking on the same rock.

Now two close-up shots of my Amano Shrimp...

Enjoy!

Those Panda's are gorgeous. I saw some at one of my LFS's a few weeks ago. They are stunning.

Your shrimp aren't Amano, they look like Bamboo shrimp to me. But def not Amano. I have 5 Amano in my tank and they look nothing like yours. I def think yours are Bamboo. Very nice looking shrimp though. Great pics.

:D

Thanks for the update on the shrimps, guys- I stand corrected! My LFS listed them as rock shrimp, but I was pretty sure they were Amano- until I saw the link! Thanks for the complements on my Pandas- my LFS wer selling them at £10.95 a pop, so a little pricey, but well worth it. One thing I sadly found out is that they can be territorial at times if there isn't enough room in the tank to establish a territory, because my tank is square in shape compared to the rectangular one in the LFS that I bought them from. One has progressively bullied the other until it passed away this morning. If the tank were rectangular, with more caves and such, it might not have happened. :(

Great looking Garra!

I got one myself for a community tank, and found they were a bit like red-tailed black sharks. Aggressive and inquisitive, and one chased a puffer of mine to death. I soon moved him out to a "temporary" tank where he has lived ever since.

Mine's quite a bit bigger than the 6cm they claim on fishbase as well!

they perfer colder fast moving water, just like hillstream loaches apparently. Have fun with them!

Some in my area, but I decided against getting them for that reason.

lovely bamboo shrimps also.

Do you find that your bamboo shrimps do a similar clean up job to amano shrimps? and are they the same size?

Bamboo shrimps are specialised filter feeders so require quite a lot more work to feed than amanos that eat most things(algae and green foods being best).

Do any of you guys that keep Garras know what Pandas are like as far as jumping goes? My remaining Panda has 'mad sessions' every so often and swims up and down the tank like a thing possessed, trying to jump out. Most of the time, he's perfectly docile, and dozes on the tank floor. If I didn't have a lid, I don't like to think what would happen! I've websearched as much as I can, and so far there seem to be a few mentions of these fish being jumpers. Can anyone confirm this?

They could jump(most fish can). Mostly though that is how cories are. They sometimes go to the top and gulp a bit of air. I believe that it either goes into there swim bladder to help them keep their bouyancy or it goes into their intestines where the O2 goes into there bloodstream. They are very nice fish with crazy antics. I believe once they have settled into a tank they are supposed to calm down a bit.

I seem to have found out what was causing the Panda to jump. The tank was rather heavily planted, and the Elodea had tangled up on the surface quite a bit, so that there was very little exposed area. Apparently, Pandas don't like plants that much. Re-arranging the plants, and cutting back the Elodea to expose clear swimming areas and more surface has calmed him down loads.
