interested in maybe adding a couple cories to my life (to help clean up after my messy mollies). i've been doing a little research on pandas, still need to do so for juliis, but as far as panda size goes, been reading conflicting things. some sites say they range from 1 inch to 1.5 inch, others say 2 inch max size, other still say 2.5 inch to 2.75 inch!!!! what have you all found to be a norm? i'm looking for something small. how about juliis, max sizes? do pandas and juliis ahve basically the same water and feeding needs? (printed out all sorts of panda info, but still need to look up juliis.............) just wanted to know what you all do for yours. thanks!!!!!!!!!! :D

I just got 3 leopard/jullii corys a few weeks ago. I did the same research on jullii and panda corys too... what a coincidence. ;)

Based on what I've ready, both jullii and panda corys are very similar (except appearance). They both grow to about 1.5" maximum and have the same water/food requirements... and need to be kept in small groups.

They are really fun fish to have. The other day my 3 corys were piled in a gymnastics triangle... two on bottom and the third on top of them.

And, boy, is my tank so much cleaner since they've moved in! :D

do the corys eat any algae, or just food off the bottom of the tank?
i am thinking of getting a few for my girlfriends 15gallon

i have pandas and albino corys and i find that they like to be out and about. i wouldnt say they like hiding places but they certainly like some sort of shelter, whether it be in the form of plants or bogwood or a cave.i tend to look at it from the activity angle cos they are active and playful and like going in and out and under all manner of things. one of the things i have in my tank is some plastic piping [the sort you can get from lfs for pond plumbing]about 1 1/4 inch diameter, i have three pieces about 3 inches long, put in a pyramid with an elastic band around to hold together[quite o lot of the lfs around here do it in their tanks]the corys , the loaches and the bristlenoses have a great time in it.i disguise it a bit by using stones around the side and putting it amongst plants. i would have said my pandas are about 1.5 in maximum.best to keep in groups so that they interact together . :) pebbles

my cories are all albinos - they spend most of the day out and about but like to have a cave or pipe to rest in.

The only thing is - do you put salt in with your mollies cos my cories don't seem able to tolerate much salt in the tank - really irritates them

:p

I started buying cory trios for my guppy tanks ( to scavenge the left over food), but soon grew to like them for themselves and playfulness.

I put them in the tanks in threes and keep each species seperate. So far I have

3 pandas
3 peppers
3 albinos
3 bronze

I will be getting more as I find them. Thanks for the tip about the three tube pyramid - I will be putting one of them in each tank.

GOT MY PANDAS!!!!!! YAY!!!! oh, they are soooooooooooooo cute and tiny right now. i was just going to get three, but the shop only had four left and i didn't want to leave one all alone, those four had been together for a month or two. they've split into pairs as they move around. two tend to stay togther constantly, the other two are either together or by themselves. i also got a few more small plants and little "rock pile" for them to use. my mollies are fascinated by them, i don't think they quite know what to make of these little fast moving things (the pandas just dart all over), and the mollies are constantly checking them out. its fun to watch.
thanks for everyone's advice!!!! i also found a lfs that finally has juliis in stock, will be getting them soon!!! :D :D

Pandas are cute, Many A Molly  You will love having them.

It was very kind of you to buy the last panda. Someone may have bought it not knowing it needed to be with friends. (Funny thing; the same thing happened to me when I bought my pandas. Well, you can't have too many corys!)

I believe corys like to have shade even more than hiding places. For that reason they love caves and low growing plants.

congrats on the panda's.. panda's are a shy cory.. and i have 8 panda's right now that use the shelter i created for them far more then any other cory i own.. whenever i go into the room to feed them they all dash for cover and don't come out until the food hits the bottom. panda's are very cute and freindly cory's and i thin u will have fun watching them playing on the bottom of your tank.. :)

That's great...I've been researching pandas as well for when I get a larger tank. But if you ever have room or want a cories that are even smaller (and just as cute if not cuter...IMO), then you've got to check out the cories I saw at the LFS over the weekend: Hastatus Pygmy Cories!! Itty bitty things not even an inch long and the guy at the store said they wouldn't get much bigger. And they were selling them for only $1.99 each (family owned/run lfs). They were absolutely adorable and I fell in love.

Does anyone have these cories in their tank? What can you tell us about them?

i just bought 10 corydiras hastatus on tuesday.. they are just getting comfortable in my tank as i type.. cute little cory's.. they need to be in larger groups as they are a shoaling cory which swims at mid water.. kind of neat to watch as they hover in the middle of the tank.

Hi,
I am a cory lover too. I went to the LFS today to buy two more buddies for mine and there were three in the tank. I didn't want to leave the third behind so I took him too. Boy are they happy in their new digs!!
