Some of my panda Cory's take a nap or sleep on top of my heater that is in the tank and I just wanted to know if it was safe for them to do this or if it could affect them in anyway from Tom

Get a heater guard, if your heater doesn't have one already.

A lot of catfish to take to sleeping on or around the heater (no one seems to know why, but they do!) and the trouble is, if the heater switches on, they don't always feel the heat until it's already burnt through their scales. I've seen some very nasty heater burns on fish, sometimes fatal.

If you already have a heater guard then you're fine, your pandas won't come to any harm.

Where can I buy a heater guard from as have not seen them in my lfs from Tom

Have a look on eBay; should be something there

My mum wanted to buy one recently, as her plec had started doing it, and our LFS told her they don't sell them any more :(

could another option be to have the heater in the tank vertically?

Oh, I hadn't thought of that!

I would still get a heater guard, but that might stop them doing it in the interim.
