Hi,

This is my first post so bear with me......

My girlfriend (well its her tank but I do all the work lol) has had her tank set up for 8 months now and its been properly cycled and everything. She bought 4 Panda cory yesterday to go with her 4 peppered cory and last night we were looking at them and 3 of them seemed happy as larry but there was on who spent all night hiding under on of the "spawning" logs. I thought he was just taking longer to adjust.

This morning I went to check on them and 3 of them were all sitting together but the other looked like he was proper up at the inside of the log so I moved the log a bit and he must have been sleeping or something as he darted away.

i've just come in from work to find one of the pandas "dead" , he was lying on his back so I put the net in and I got a shock, he started swimming upside down over the grave as he was still alive. I caught him and looked at him in the net but he couldn't keep himself up but there were no signs anything on his body.

Any idea what happened or did he just not adjust?

So he was obviously suffering so I got some ice cold water (don't judge me) and put him in there so he would be out of his misery!

I tested the water and the readings are:

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0 to 5

So everything is thing water wise.

Once I done that one of the younger peppered cory was up at the glass and the only way to describe it was, it was like a little puppy bouncing around waiting for the ball to be thrown and he did that for a minute (I see them on the glass all the time but this was hyperactive!) and once he got fed up he gave a few twitches and went back to hoovering the gravel.

Is that something to be worried about? I first thought of something like a parasite or something so I looked through our supply's and the only thing close I had was Interpet No.8 Fin Rot and Fungus (I bought medicine early on incase of emergency) but i couldn't see anything in the leaflet for any symptoms.

Well sorry for the long post but some input would be great!

Thanks

I've kept panda corys and had one for 4 years.
I bought three once and not once survived. You can get bad bunches now and then.

How long did you climatise the new fish for.
Any sores or red streaking on the belly.
What do the barbels look like.
I think I would add a bacterial med to the tank.
Do the corys look bloated or thin.
Are they eating well.

I recently purchased 3 albino corys and one of them was much, much quieter than the other 2. It died yesterday but, like you, I could see nothing wrong.

The other 2 are fine (fingers crossed!) so I just chalked it up to a weaker fish.

Hi Wilder,

The new fish were in there bag for an hour and every 15 mins I added the aquarium water to the bag and after the hour was up I caught them in the net and put them in (I never empty the bag into the tank!)

There was no redness as I compared him to an online photo and the others in the tank and he looked fine, his barbles looked healthy and were the same size more or less.

The 3 left are eating fine as i've just fed them but the one who died (well i'm sure it must be the same one) didn't seem all that interested but he did eat something but not as much as the rest.

They don't look bloated or thin and even the one that died looked perfectly fine and nothing out of the ordinary!

What kind of med should i get? would I just treat the whole tank? i do have a Quarantine Tank but he is housing a very naughty ram as he was bullying the peppered corys for days 2 weeks ago (hasn't been in with the pandas)

With losing one I would add anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
Corys are very prone to bacterial infections.
Its up to you but I would just add the med to be on the safe side.
It might of just been weak.

These are signs of a bacterial infection.
Being bloated or thin.
Short thin whiskers.
Looking pale or darker in colour.
Not eating.
Acting listless and lethagic.
Sores or red streaking in fins or body.
Leaning to oneside.
Turning upside down, or laying or objects in the tank.
Laboured breathing, or shallow breathing.
Inflamed gills, or swollen gills.
Struggling to get off bottom of tank only to fall back down onto substrate.

I just found a bottle of Pimafix at the back of the unit would that do the trick?

Not really only find its good for columnaris.

You need a med like anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

Sorry to hear your cory died,i had some die just after i got them, referring to your hyper cory, mine do this all the time,i find it highly amusing,it's very much like a naughty puppy thinking what can i do next, the scampers off!!

Well quick update I added the Anti Internal Bacteria today so hopefully that will help things if there is a problem. I did read tho that you should increase air supply. I have a dual air pump running and one of the air stones does agitate the surface (the other one just looks nice ) I have an old Fluval mini kicking around with a spraybar should I put that in a position it just above the surface to get the extra air or will there be enough air for the 3 pandas and 4 peppered?

Thanks once again for your help as I wouldn't have much of a clue other wise
