We have a 20 US gallon long tank, which currently houses 3 bright orange/red platies (2 are pregnant; going to leave the fry alone when birthed), and 2 harlequin rasboras (soon to be 6 or so once our 10 gallon cycles; see this post for current cycling progress). It has plenty of plants (fake) and caves, and has a gravel bottom.

We are planning to get bottom feeders to help tidy up and are deciding between panda cories or kuhli loaches (probably about 3 or 4 of whichever we choose). Kuhli loaches seem a bit creepy (centipedes without legs), but there's something neat about them which is hard to put my finger on. And panda cories are just so damn cute.

Anyways, given my tank, which seems better? I can lower the temp for the cories to about 75 F (currently it is 76 F), but not much below that for our other fish. What do you all think?

Thanks for your input.

The panda cories make a great addition to any tank, and with your stocking you could easily have a good shoal of about 6 or so. Make sure you provide plenty of cover though, Cories can get a bit freaky.

Pandas~! You have enough room for 5+, which is good for them. I have 7 in my 29 gallon. There are adoreable and very playful! :D

Thanks for your replies.

I'm trying to find out which of the two would do better in the tank's current setup. I'm not sure if having gravel, and not sand, would affect one species more than the other.

Or, would 3 pandas and 3 kuhlis work?

Go with Cory's. Khuli's really need a sand substrate as they like to burrow themselves in it. They can't do that with gravel.
