Hi, I bought 2 pakistani loaches at the start of the week, these are quite a bit bigger than the rest i usually see and have already, they were in a tank of angel fish at the store and pretty much just led together in that tank with 1 supposedly carrying eggs, on introducing them to my tank - roma 120 they seemed to have a new lease of life and have been active for most days until yesterday were they would hide behind my internal filter and prop themselves in as tight as they could, well i just done a 50 % water change and have noticed they have red marks near their mouth/gills and top and rear fins, their are no fish which bother these in my tank as their the biggest in their (fat b*stards) the only treatments i have in my stock are tetra medica lifeguard tabs so i put 4 in there. I dont know whats best for them now, i could put them in a breeder trap in the tank but that might stress them more, and their almost as big as it, they are unbothered by any other fish but just lazing in 1 spot at the bottom.

ammonia:0
nitrite:0
nitrate:80

these figures are after the water change, my tapwater has a nitrate of 10-15 before i start, but i use prime so im assuming this nitrate is detoxified.

just done another 70% water change, full vacuum, removed some ornaments to stop so much crud hiding amongst it. will retest once tank settles.

well 1 died overnight i had them both in the breeding box, now the others still fighting, looks a lot healthier than the one which died but still lacking movement, im just wondering if the cause of these deaths was introducing an ill elephant fish into my tank (in the breeder box) from my fathers tank, the elephant nose had white patches over his eyes and body.

Sorry about your yo yo loach

Sometimes you cannot tell if you buy/obtain a new fish which is already sick.

It is always best to put new fish in a quarrantine tank for a few weeks before introducing them to the main tank.

A small 30 litre plain glass tank does not cost a fortune and is worth it's weight in gold if it prevents infecting the whole of your beautiful aquarium.

You just need to purchase a small heater and airstone for it, water change 25% daily then observe your new fish for at least 2 weeks for signs of disease. 4 weeks is better if you can be that patient.

Sorry to hear that

Can you look in the pinned section of this emergency forum and give me as much of the info that is suggested that you can? ie: size of tank, water stats now etc
