This might be a dumb question, but I can't find the answer when searching on the web.

I want to get a pair of dwarf gourami because I read that they were happier in pairs and will swim together (is this true?) ... however, I'm not interested in breeding them. So then should I get a male and a female, or should I get two males? I was afraid two males would be agressive with eachother?

Also, can you mix dwarf gouramis -- like a Honey Dwarf Gourami with a Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami ?

Do lfs sell female gouramis? I read somewhere that it's very hard to find female gouramis at store because they have such dull color.

I'm pretty sure that the different types of gouramis will get along though.

When I was at Petco the other night, I saw 2 females in a tank with many males -- so maybe they're just a lot harder to find? I wouldn't buy any there anyway (I had to go there and pick up ferret food). I'm hoping I'll get to chat with someone at the LPS this afternoon and maybe they'll be able to tell me more.

Tank size is always a great bit of info to add :)

2 males should do fine (depending on tank size). However, i wouldn't recommend buying Dwarf Gourami since many of the carry nasty diseises such as TB and other parasites due to them being overbred in the commercial fish farms of Asia and other countries
