Hi, just a quick question

Can paint fumes harm my fish?

I'm currently painting my kitchen with is around 12-14 feet away from my tank. The tank has a lid and is fully cycled but I just wondered if the fumes can do any harm and if there's anything I need to know before I carry on over the weekend.

Thanks

I would cover the tank with newspaper. Cover the top and tape it down about halfway down the glass. Turn off any outside air supply to the tank (air pumps powering airstones and the like.)After the fumes die down a bit, you can turn the air back on and remove the paper. You can run your filter the whole time, as long as it's not pulling air in from the outside. It may just be me being super cautious, but that's my procedure when painting or bug spraying is going on.

okay thanks. My filter is an internal one so I'm guessing that's fine. I have plenty of old towels (no newspapers though)so I'll cover the tank with those. I left all the windows ajar last night as I was worried I'd wake up to dead fish - all present and fine though :D

My tank is in my bedroom and I'm always spraying deodorant and stuff about the place, closer to the tank than I should be if I'm honest. It's not done my fish any harm yet though.

Doesn't hurt to be cautious though.
