Hi all,

Have had another surprise in the tank this week, at least not a nasty one!

One of the P.Saulosi females suddenly grew stripes and an attitude  . This leaves me with 3 male and 3 females :X . Suggestions on what to do please!

Do I......

1 Return a male to lfs and swap for female?
2 Add more females?
3 There is no 3?

If 1, then which male?
Male a: Bosses the whole tank apart from the synos and the BNs. Is a handsome fish.

Male b: Sub-dominant male. Hides in rocks all day. When he does venture out, he's a very good looking fish.

Male c: Taking the fight to the alpha male...Still orange, good looking potentially for an ex-female!!!! ?

If 2, then how females many should I get...bearing in mind another 'fe'male may be turning as well?

Help please!

Cheers

Gordon

What size is your tank? what other tank mates have you got? they should really be a ratio of 1male and 3 females.

it's a 75g tank, other tank mates are 2 xp.acei, 2 x i.sprengerae, 3 m.estherae, 2 x l.caereleus, 2 x synodontis multipunctatus and 2 x BN plecs (plus the 6 P.saulosi)

It's not really very heavily stocked, which means I have room to move...personally i think I need to add some more fish, maybe up to 12 to reduce the agression through over stocking.

Thanks for looking.

Cheers

I would add more fish too. If you can manage to get the ratio right then you will have a lovely tank aura.

Right folks, another Saturday, another trip to the LFS.

Came home with a promise from LFS to swap a male sualosi if I get any grief, a L.caereleus male that replces the one that got caught in the Great January fish meds massacre and 3 (1m/2f) Labidochromis sp "hongi" as additions to the tank...

I did look at getting some C.Afra's but the LFS only had males, so that was avoided till they get some more stock. It's funny tho, the tank now looks much better already, looking much nearer to a valid stocking level and grumpy Mr Saulosi is currently out-numbered!

Thats brilliant, glad you have it all sorted now, also how come you have only 2 labs, they are lovely when they are in a group of 5+

I only have 3 adult labs as I thought I would wait to see how many fry survived in the tank...I had seen 2 or 3, but now I'm not sure....
