Hello, my fish are breathing really fast. Is this a lack of oxygen in the tank? i have the cover glass on all the time and the internal filter, only sometimes i connect the attachment to make oxygen bubbles in the tank.

Usually with lack of oxygen they'll sit at the top of the tank gulping air too are they doing that? If not it may be something else more serious like bacteria or something.

no there not doing that, there swimming around normally but breathing fast thats all.

i havent got any readings apart from PH which is 7.6. i will get the other readings soon....

The fish are also opening and closing there mouths.... :( what does this mean?

They sound stressed to me and are probably unhappy about their current surroundings. Have you added any new fish recently? The most likely cause of stress is poor water quality. Get yourself an Aqurium Pharmaseuticals API Freshwater Master test kit. Worth their weight in gold. About £18 - £25. :good:

I got an API Freshwater Master test Kit from ebay £12 well worth a look :good:

Try doing a 10% water change then turn your airpump on leave it on all night, then see how they are getting on in the morning, i had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and did the above and my fish were fine the next day, you may just need to leave your airpump on for longer periods so the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water doesn't drop to low. If you fish continue breathing fast it could be a more serious bacteria problem as babybell said. :)

thanks for the info... i have an internal filter which is on 24-7. This morning i woke up and the fish are all swimming around normally but still breathing fast... im going to get this thing that kills all ammonia in the tank...

don't do that.... make sure it allows the bacteria to consume the ammonia. If it simply takes the ammo out of the cycle then as soon as you quit using the stuff then you'll be back at the beginning of a cycle again.

Sorry misread your first thread. i thougt you had an airpump with an airstone which the sole job is to pump air into the tank. I would advise buying one as they keep the aquarium well oxygenated. they have other uses as well powering syphons etc.
