I have read that overstocking a malawi tank is a good idea to stop aggression ,so that must mean that with good filtration an inch for a gallon wont apply so what is the overstocking guide for inches and gallons

There really is no "rule of thumb" for stocking a malawi tank. It really just comes down to experience, and your filter's capability. What size tank are you thinking of?

Providing that you are talking about mbuna i would suggest that a good rule of thumb is that you stock around 22 inches sl of fish to one square foot of bottom but remember with this high level of stocking top notch filteration and large regular water changes are critical especially due to the alkaline water conditions.
