hello dear aquarists, i'm new on this forum and i wanted to ask any of the professionals on this forum if they could tell me if my two freshwater aquariums are overstocked? thanks in advance xx
i've used aqadvisor and it all fish i want to add and move so for 15 gal it sad 116% stocked and for the other one 98% stocked :)
first let's talk about the 15 gal one.
dimensions are 60x30x30cm and there are bunch of plants, 5 rocks and two huge driftwoods.
i have a sponge filter and a hang-on filter, as well as a bumboo and pothos growing out of the tank, to absorb ammonia.
the current stocking:
-5 neon tetras
-2 rummynose tetras ( planning on getting another 3 as soon as the pet store gets them, but i've noticed that they are schooling with neon tetras)
- 5 kuhli loaches ( had 6 but one died :( , i'm not planning on getting a 6th one )
- 1 bronze cory and 1 black cory ( i've had two more of these, but one got stuck in sponge filter and died- now others one are too big to get stuck there, and the bronze one just randomly died)*
- a female betta
- 3 julii corys **
- some red cherry shrimp and one apple snail
* none of the fish are showing stress and the parameters are always stable :)
** they are in the 9 gallon one and i'm planning on moving them into the 15 gal

the 9 gallon is heavily planted, with a hang on filter and a monstera growing out of it to absorb ammonia.
the dimensions are 45x25x30cm. had some smaller rocks and bunch of pieces of wood.
the current stocking
-african dwarf frog
- 6 galaxy rasboras
- 3 julii corys ( soon to be moved into the 15 gallon )
- 2 very small apple snails and 5-10 shrimp

now i'm planning on getting microrasbora erythromicon ( a school of 5 ) and where should i put them , also i've though about getting 4 pygmy corys for smaller tank.
is that a good idea? should i move the betta to the 9 gallon? every idea and opinion is welcome

It appears both tanks are probably overstocked, and the stocking is a bit of a mess tbh. Your tetra and cory all prefer bigger numbers, but you don't have the space to provide that. I'd return either all the cories or all the tetra and just keep to one species.

Your ADF will be lonely without company and there's debates about whether they should be in community tanks at all (I have done both community and non-community tanks for my ADF's, currently have mine in a species-only tank).

You don't have room for a school of rasbora or pygmy cories in either of these tanks, and you shouldn't really keep them in anything smaller as they need more swimming room. 4 isn't enough and isn't fair on them.

I won't comment on the betta as never kept a female.

I'd simplify things massively in your position and strip the stocking right back, definitely not adding anything further.

hello, quick update. this is my decision. i'll return rummynose tetras, bronze cory and black cory to the store and get 3 more julii corys ( i just found out that they're acc false julii corys ). and i'll get another adf as soon as the store gets them. so the stocking for the 9 gall would be 6 galaxy rasboras, female betta and 2 adfs. galaxy rasboras seem really happy in the 9 gall because it's heavily planted, and they don't seem stressed. i even saw two of them swiming like making a circle ( idk how to explain , english isnt my first language). and for the 15 gall, there will be 5 kuhli loaches, 5 neon tetras and 6 julii corys. i used aq advisor again, and none of these setups go above 100% so i think that it will be okay now? do you think that they will be able to thrive and be happy ? thanks in advance xx
