Hello. I have a very pregnant female platy and 11 of her fry (6 weeks old) in a fry tank. As I was walking out of the house this morning to go to school, I asked my sister to keep an eye on my female platy because she should drop soon. I told her that, if the platy drops, she should feed her a little pinch of food to keep her from eating the babies. When I got home 20 minutes ago, the mom looked like she was about to explode (partly from being pregnant and partly from eating too much), all of the fry had pot bellies, and there was a ton of food on the bottom. 2 of the fry are having trouble swimming because their bellies are ENORMOUS!!! I sucked up all of the food, but I don't know what to do about the fish. Would they be ok to not eat tomorrow? I feed them 4-5 crushed flakes every morning. And 2 bloodworms every 2-3 days for the mama. What do I do about their pot bellies?

Please help!
Nikki

I will post pics soon.

^ Yes, fasting won't do any harm. :)

Be sure to tell your sister that it was too much to be sure it doesn't happen again. ;)

she said it was just a little pinch. I told her that I don't give them more than 6 flakes that I crush between my fingers. My livebearer and tetra tanks get 1 pinch. I guess she thought they all got the same amount of food.

They are all back to normal , but they poop a lot more. Its a good thing I have a bare bottom tank. That makes it easier to clean up poop and uneaten food.
