Hi,

I have five spotted corys in my tank, and I'm just wondering how active these fish get.

For a bunch of bottom feeders, my corys seem to spend a lot time everywhere but the bottom.

They are extremely active. They are always moving up and down the walls of the tank, or just floating around in the middle and top.

Of course, they also spend a lot of time scavenging around in the bottom, or just playing dead.

Now I know it's probably no big deal, but I just wanted to make sure that I have nothing to worry about.

Thanks!

Active corys are happy corys, when they aren't moving around a lot is when you wanna be worried.

As for Peppered, Paleatus or Habrosus?
Most pygmy varieties such as Habrosus spend most of thier time midlevel.
My Paleatus tend to spend more time scavaging on the plants, where my Aneaus scavange the substrate.
As for activity, it tends to lessen with age. Juvis love dashing around and playing along the glass, especially in the filter current. As they mature, searching for food, especially with gravid females, the search for food becomes top priority.

My cories are pretty busy. They have their still times at the bottom of the tank but they do go all over the tank. I like when they shoot up the glass to the top. Fun to watch.

Thanks for the replies! I knew I had nothing to worry about :)

But I think I have to worry now. I just woke up and noticed that one of my smaller cory's tail is extremely damaged!

I have no idea how this happened, but I'm willing to bet my new Betta is involved. I actually saw my Betta taking a jab at the cory when I taking a look now.

He's just sitting still, not looking for food or anything.

What should I do to make him better? Most of my fish die quickly after injury, so please let me know of any fast acting treatments you can think of :(

Can you get a pic of him? You may want to start a new thread but depending on how bad the damage is clean water may be all you need. You'll want to separate the betta of course.

He kept going to the top to get air. So I put him in a breeder box and went to school.

I came home after a couple of hours, and he was dead :(

Sorry for your loss! I'd get a separate tank for your betta so that he won't bother your other cories.

Sorry !!! Check for ammonia (sounds like ammoniaburning) or Chlorine!!! Overactive Corys like these otherwise than stress (new corys) or spawning behaviour is quite strange to me.

Agree with rehoming the Betta. It's a coin toss with them. Some like mine were quite mellow with tankmates. Others are homicidal.

I tested my water and it`s fine. No ammonia or chlorine. I think they just have their crazy moments.

And I think I was being unfair with my Betta. That particular cory must have been sick right when I got it at the pet store. My Betta gets along fine with my other corys and all my other fish, actually. It just minds its own business. It`s a little more shy than I`d like, but otherwise there`s no problem with it.

A that's good! Strange one had this problems. What species are they BTW ? High pressure / bad weather, aso can cause a spawning behaviour, but wouldn't get one injured like this.

The pet store says they're juli corys. But my research says juli Cory's are rare, and pet stores confuse them with leopard corys. So I'm not sure, they're either leopard Cory's or juli corys

Have you got a pic? They're most probably trilineatus true Julii are rarely seen
