I've had my new betta for a few days now. He's my first, but I was under the impression that bettas tend to be slower, more sedate fish? This guy only stops moving at night- otherwise he's doing big loops across the tank. At night he sleeps in a little house I have for him (which is, frankly, adorable)

I'm just worried he's actually stressed over something? Tank specs are as follows:

5 gallon w/ live plants
Temp: 79
Ammonia and Nitrite: 0
PH: 7
Tankmates: Mystery snail (temp. resident for only a week or so), ghost shrimp

The tank is overfiltered, but I put floss over it to slow the current. He's eating well. I don't really see any reason he would be stressed.

So...stressed betta or just a speedy betta? Any thoughts would be great- I want to raise a happy fish!

As long as hes eating and theres no ammonia or nitrites then he should be fine.

Every betta is different; mine for example mopes about under my filter, then darts around the tank before resting on my plants before continuing =P

He will settle down.its been my experience that new ones tend to patrol around a lot. Once he is comfy in his ' territory' you may notice him become more lazy nd rest more, only going on occasional patrol. enjoy your new fish!
Cheers

Maybe it depends on the Betta, my female swims around all over the place all day.

Thanks so much for replying! It's good to know he's "normal"...I actually really like how active and curious he is. I gave him frozen bloodworms last night, and I wanted to see if he would eat from my fingers. He grabbed that sucker and YANKED. Awful strong for such a little guy!

Now I just need to think of a name...

My girls are all very active. I have 3 males who seem quite relaxed and 'lazy', then I have my PK male who never, ever seems to stop!
