Over Stocked

I have 2.5 ft tank leght X 16 lenght " X 1 ft deep tank.

Currently holding

1 small angelfish
2 opline goruamis
4 small albino corys
6 guppies
and some platties (They have breed and i have lost count)

With a furval 105 exturnal filter. Clean it once a week 25%. And there hasnt been any problem yet... Good planting for hinding, bogwood and coconut cave.

Would you say this was overstocked?

When the angel grows, it will be fully stocked.

So my angel live there all the time. i though i would have to rehome him

Normally its advised 20g for the first and 10g for additional. With the other fish, you may have to re-home him if the bio-load gets too high. Other than that, I don't see any problems with him growing to full size in there. Tank depth MIGHT be a problem depending on what type of angel you have. Normally its frowned upon to have them in anything under 16" height.

How can i tell what my angel fish is?

There are P. altum and P. leopoldi. I am by no means an expert on telling the difference.

Woops I totally forgot about P. scalare. There are 3 types. Sorry.

Tank isnt overstocked, though IMO the dimensions are too small for a fully grown angel - that fish is going to be cramped when it's an adult.

P.scalare is the name given for the domestic angelfish. In reality, the ones in stores are probably a hybrid between all three species.

You would know if you had a wild-caught angel that was a proper species, because it would have wild colours, be more sensitive to water stats and cost a lot more that the LFS. Wild angels aren't particularly common in stores, if they were for sale anywhere there would be a note up explaining what they were, or the staff would tell you.

would he be alright with a shark tetras, a couple of plecos. in a 4ft bowed front tank... will find out what it looks like when possible

He is black with a red tail... not a rainbow though
