We have now hopefully got our final stock list. Our tank dimensions are 60x20x24" deep. Which on surface area gives us 100" of fish. Tank is fully cycled after a fishless prawn cycle.

9 Tiger Barbs 9x3"= 27" [27"]
4 Cherry Barbs 4x2" = 8" [35"]
5 Harlequin rasboras 5x2" = 10" [45"]
14 Tetras (cardinals, rummy or serpae) 14x2"=28"[73"]
4 Pakastani loaches 4x4" = 16" [89"]
3 Bosemani Rainbows 3x4" = 12" [101"]

A good combination? please comment. All suggestions welcome.

Thinking to maybe leave the rasboras and get a schwartz cory or two.

Also important which fish should be introduced first. Want to introduce enough to feed the bacteria. Most prob for about 2 weeks to see how things go before introducing more.

i wouldn't get gier barbs with the rest of your stocking list, they're nippy and agressive and could cause havoc as the rest of your fish are peaceful. i would get rid of them.

if you get cories, make sure you get at least 6.

if your tank has finished cycling you should be adding some fish straight away, if you leave the tank for 12hrs with nothing to feed the bacteria then they will die off and you'll need to start your cycle again. if you've finished cyclng and aren't ready to add fish keep adding prawns or a pinch of fish food daily then when your ready to add fish do a massive water change then add them straight away.

:)

R u gonna have a centrepiece fish? How long did it take you to cycle with prawns, im currently 23 days into a fishless cycle.

um'd and ahh'd over the tiger barbs, but gonna go with them and see if they just bother one another due to their number. If not will relocate them or return them.
Prawns are still in the tank so feeding bacteria.

Cycle took about 3 and a half weeks. We were ready maybe after two weeks, but weren't ready for fish so added more prawns - (too many i think) so prolonged the process, but have more bacteria now coz of it.

Cannot decide on centrepiece fish - any suggestions. Don't like gouramis, ditched the idea of a betta coz of the tigers. Maybe go for paradise but again flowing fins. But Arianna has posted that she kept a paradise with tigers for a long time without trouble. So may go that way.

What fish should we start with?

cant help you there im afraid .. im struggling to find a centrepeice fishmyself... i just cant seem to decide on what to have

cool, calculated risk with a back up plan is just fine! some of the most interesting tanks start off that way :good: hope it works out for you.

i say this to everyone, but get a shoal of congo tetra's for a 'centerpiece shoal' i think they look awesome!

how about an angel or two for centerpiece fish?

for the first fish, you should always go with the hardiest, although from that list i see nothing delicate at all so i reckon anything except the tiger barbs. as they can eb territorial you shouldn't let them establish a territoty first or it's guarantee'd they'll bully new arrivals, they should come last. other than that get whatever you like
