You don't know the name of the catfish you have?

Which are those exactly, Anything that gets to big we will just sell it

What a disgusting attitude to have.

We get advice from the people who sell them to us. I think a lot of PPL with fish like to buy them because they look nice. We are not serious obsessed fish keepers and the fish are very healthy and not mistreated, I bet a lot are!!! I only created this forum for the tank in the wall, not the fish.

Well if you only take advise from LFS who are well known to give out bad advice on the motivation that they want you to buy fish from them, and don't care whether they are suitable for your tank, then that says a lot about you.

Putting large fish like a Red Spot sev, Tinfoil barbs and the Featherfin in such a small tank is selfish to your needs and not thinking about the fish's needs at all.

You have obviously got this tank purely on the fake aesthetic values of it, personally I do not like it, without taking into account any of the fish's needs.

You haven't even done the basic research that would tell you that Sevs destroy plants - but hey, that's fine, you can just buy new ones and replace them with your MONTHLY water change

Mattlee has given sound advice and you have just displayed arrogance and ignorance by replying with "we'll ask your permission before buying any fish next time". Posting this unsuitable tank on a fish forum is bound to get people's opinions forthwith - or else why would you post?

I cannot imagine the fish enjoying your monthly pulling on the tank either, the barbs are quite scatty fish and will not be happy with this. In fact they may even try and jump out, so be prepared.

No one is telling you what to do, you wouldn't listen anyway, but posting on here will get you other people's opinions, and anyone who actually cares about fish would comment about your stocking being wholly unsuitable for your tank - short term or long term. I guess you've not heard of stunting as you clearly don't research.

A large shoal of Cardinals would have been much more suitable and actually create a better effect. Too late now and I hope for your fish's sake you at least up the filtration substantially and up the waterchanges to weekly.

Quoted from article: The Animal Welfare Act of 2006 includes fish kept as pets. It stipulates that animals must have a suitable diet and place to live, be free of pain, injury or suffering and exhibit normal behaviour patterns. Any keeper not meeting these criteria may be banned from owning animals, fined up to £20,000 and/or sent to prison.

Chillout Fish PPL.........

Surely you expected at least one person to comment on the inhabitants of your tank (which I personally do not like because of the fact that it looks really unstable and I wouldn't want to be risking my fish, especially if I had Sevs and Tinfoils.

This is a fish forum, and just because you are going to 'sell them when they get too big' doesn't mean that you aren't causing irreversible damage somehow.

Have you never heard of stunted growth? The fish stay small but their internal organs don't, shortening their lifespan and leading to fatal health problems.

As both mattlee and ChilliPepper have said previously, you should really research the fish you are looking to buy, before letting your wife buy them because they look pretty, or at least learn their names.

Irresponsible fishkeepers are what encourage lfs to carry on being ignorant of fishes needs and selling delicate fish to unsuitable owners and their tanks.

Oh and the BBQ comment, way to be incredibly rude to someone who was simply offering advice on the health of your fish and your wallet. But you know, I'm sure the fish will look beautiful when they're in agony in a couple of years.

All,

Its such a shame that this thread has turned so sour. It was an amazing thread, And im still looking forward too updates. I have to say though that i hope the soon updates are the restocking of the tank.

I think you have too think of the advice above, This is a fish forum, You wouldn't put a dog in a TINY cage with lots of rats and expect it too be a normal happy go lucky dog if you "let it out" would you.

I dont want to flame, So please dont bait with a response. Just think about what you are saying too people on here,

And slapping a shark in the face is not going to make it back down.

This works both ways though on the other hand. Maybe Fishnkids has been naive in the stocking and been a sucker to his wife. BUT having said that haven't we all at times done something silly. and its our job to bring that view around too the right one.

I think your wrong fishnkids for your responses and comments, but also some blame has to be put on the forum members like myself who are baiting these kinds of comments...

I hope you all see my points of view. :good:

Hi Matt, Thanks for your comments, Can i just get my point across again, Me (the wife) and my five year old son chose the cat fish 3 years ago when it was a baby, My son thought it was great, the others followed as tiny babies, We have had them 3 years now, The only thing we can do is get rid of them but how and where. But they are our pets. Also, I think the photos don't show the real size of the tank and the fish are magnified a lot bigger than they actually are.........I am a bit sick of people telling us that you cant have that fish in that tank, We will do what we want when we want and when the fish out grow the tank, thats when we will do something about it. We are being slated now for something we are really proud of building and it looks fantastic, the water change was easier than our Last Tank.......Cleaning it was easy as half the water was emptied before i pulled it out,( UPGRADED FILTER )no problems at all! The water is perfect as my husband has the digital readers. I also think that these fish have done really well and look healthier than ever. I am sick of everyone slagging the wife off, which is actually me that joined the thread, uploaded the pics and followed it through, my husband jumped in when he saw the hurtful comments.....I am very disappointed and have asked for this thread to be shut down as i no longer want to follow it through. Can i just say, It looks hell of a lot nicer than an old fashioned cabinet shoved in a corner somewhere, although it still needs a frame for it, it still looks great....We wish that we had not bothered telling anyone about it, We never neglect anything we have, we are very clean and tidy people and for all the geeks on here, think they should know, that you are all being cruel by buying the fish from the rivers and keeping them in a tank in the first place. Thats being cruel, no matter what they say!!!! But, for now, we are keeping our beloved fish untill they out grow the tank, then i will get some different fish, but these were the ones we bought years ago (when we didnt know anything about them) and im pround to say they are still with us now after this time. I dont spend all my time googling everything and I dont sit on the laptop reading and slagging everyones threads. I have a life with my family and tend to keep it that way. I would like to thank those that have supported us in the beginning, and yes, the tank has worked out and it works perfectly, I also want to say that the gravel was the best on the market, eco, that cost a fortune and is great for the plants. To be honest, I have seen some really tacky fishtanks on here ( no names) and we wanted something different. Glad we did it, So thanks for taking an interest, wish there were more exciting threads on here.....

such a shame some people cant take advice or criticism....

ah well enjoy your tank, im sure as you say the fish will be perfectly happy crammed in it :*

Well said mattlee.

It's a shame really because I kind of like the idea, don't like the runners or maintenance schedule, but I think they look good when they're flush against the wall. And properly stocked.

I think I'll stick with my tacky tank stuck in the corner.

this has ran its course now. I'm closing this thread, any problems please contact either myself or one of the other mods.
