Hi
Could someone tell me please is it possible to keep oscars and a red tailed shark together in a 4ft tank, both fish being of the same size.
We have been told we can if the fish are of the same size, but i am not to sure.
Thanks for helping me out on this one.

The red tailed shark will get to be about 6 inches, and theOscar can reach over 12 inches, sometimes 14 or even 15i nches. Chances are your Oscar will out grow the Red tailed shark and eat him.

the only way would be to start out with a near full grown redtail black and a juvi oscar, growing them up together,,,,,
i did have a full grown redtail and 2 oscars/jag etc together but my cover fell of my old intake on filter and retail got sucked up but this arrangement lasted six months before

but if oscars are big and reds big i wouldnt really attempt this

The first Oscar I had was in a 4ft tank on his own but he grew so big that I was having to water change everyother day and the tank was clearly too small for him. Personally I would say (and I know that this is agreed at oscarfish.com) minimum 55G preferably 75G for a single oscar with no tankmates.

They are awesome fish though! Would have one now except cant fill up my 55G at the moment. Went with RBP's instead.

Thanks for answering me it looks like the oscars are out with my red tail shark.
Could you give me an idea of the best fish to get to go with my red tail shark the size he is at the moment is about 5inch in lengh.
Thanks again for the help

Not a good plan you oscar will get to a size where your redtail becomes nothing more than food i have 4 oscar all 4 are 16" and they will eat anything they can get hold of

So my advice is that you find a new home or a new tank :good:
