I'd guess that a newborn would take 5-10 years to get to full size.

And there are things you can add to the water to make the fish grow faster and bigger. Same thing a cheater athelete uses to make his muscles grow faster and bigger. And if you add these to the water, you can expect similiar side-effects plus bodily deformities. Not a pretty sight.

seriously, they grow an inch a month quicker in higher temperatures with the best care. They slow down as they get large but still up to 10 years!
