Oscars are omnivore they eat anything there average size is 15" i've even seen a freak of nature at 17" they can live for about 10 to 12 years if looked after properly .

I have an oscar that is 25 years old and is way over a foot he eats anything that don't eat him first lol...

They are definitely long lived. I had one for about 13 years. He was 12" long. Ate everything from pellets to feeders. He lived with snakeheads, a pacu, a redtail cat, a true gourami, a dempsey and lots of others in his life with me. Only fish he couldn't live with was a big ole texas I had. They had TITANIC battles and the texas had to go. I have also seen them larger than my guy, including a monster about 16 or 17"!!
