Oscars Vs Severum

Hiya, are oscars and severums the same fish in terms of behaviour? What I mean is oscars are apparently 'clever' but just wondering if sevs share this trait?

Pift, oscars are boring compared to severums, severums are so clever its unreal, my male severum knows the exat time of feeding, he knows when its lights out (clever for a fish) oscars are always looking for food, never know when to stop being a pair and get big and ugly (i still love them tho, sevs are bettter )

If it were a simple case of "Oscar vs Severum, which is nicer" or "Which should I get?", it'd be severum hands down for me. But as you asked which was most intelligent, I'd have to say oscars. TBF I only had my sevs up until 4-5", but they were miles more beautiful, and peaceful (well, one of them was). Intelligent? Not mine. But if you want clever, and ugly - go for the oscar lol.

lol, well its an annoying decision cos I want angels, so its either sev and angel or oscar and no angels

agreed, if you want angles, keep them without oscars or serviums... things like discus and rams are nice with angles...

Some are, some aren't - same as any cichlid. I had two, one was a shy retiring quiet peaceful fella, the other was a pain in the arse (but only with the other sev).

They'd be ok with angels while small (mine were in with angels and they were 4-5"), but once they get much bigger than that you'd have to rethink stocking. These fish can get up to 10-12", so even peaceful ones can knock about angels.

If you want to keep cichlids and angels together, I'd go for rainbows (yes, I know, I recommend them to everyone!), they're totally peaceful and have just as much personality as the big cichlids. And you could have a pair, as they're true community fish

Ps. When I say rainbows I dont mean rainbowfish, I mean herotilapia multispinosa But hey, you could have both in the right sized tank. How big is the tank?

good point, but the reason I wanted the sev was because I believed that it could go with angels, so again I'm stuck lol
