Hi,

Well my dad whose profession is a pond builder, has finally enough time to build a 700-1000 gallon pond outside our new house in a protected area with no predators. I live in Florida, and I wanted to know, Is it safe to put Red Tiger Oscars, Red Oscars, black oscars and Albino Oscars in the pond? The water temperature stays at around 85-90 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer, and 75-84 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. I have read from many places that 90 degrees is too hot, but my friend has an Oscar in his 55 gallon, which is located in his garage, which stays around the same temperatures I have mentioned. Also I wanted to know, how many Oscars is it possible to put in a pond this size? Also How many Plecostomus could I put in this pond? Well I would be very grateful if could answer these questions, and give me other suggestions.

Thanks
Adam

I read somewhere that it is believed that water below 60 degrees kills Oscars. Are you positive the water never gets below 75 in the winter and never above 90 in the summer?

well the least ive ever seen the water down here in florida was 74, and that was in the river and cannels, but dont forget florida cannels and rivers are home to many oscars, as my friend caught a 16 inch albino the other day.

Ive talked to someone who has actually caught, yes caught a few wild oscars that were released down in florida. I dont know if that means typical LFS oscars are hardy enough to match ones that may be offspring of several generations of released oscars, but I'd say it may very well be ok to put some in an outside pond

Way to cold in NY too house any oscars in any sort of ponds. Please post some pictures. Where are you from that your gonna be housing the oscars in a pond?

Well i will send some pics when the pond is completed, but the oscars will be small so i mite just take pics every month to show you guys how they are doing.

Sounds like a good idea, You live in florida it doesnt get too cold there in the winter.
