Oscars In Florida Pond!

You could build the pond as people in the UK build their Koi ponds, partially below ground and partially above.

We have a 3000g pond in the garden which is 3feet below and 2feet above ground. It is built out of blocks and then lined wiht foam and fibreglassed.

We have also put two windows in the side, mounted in steel frames and glazed with reinforced glass, which is half and inch thick.

If you are interested I'll dig out some pics :)

i would be interested in seeing some pics of this partially above/below ground pond. sounds like it would eb really nice.

Ok here is a link to a website which is hosting the pics of the entire build

http://www.koivista.com/home.php?id=123

This pond was designed for koi and there are also photos of the filtration system etc we have used, it is also block built and fibreglassed.

With the filtration and gallonage this pond can house up to 10 koi of over 24inches in length.

I used to think that as well when I was considering a pond, but she's right, with those big ponds you tend to see the fish from an angle, therefore you can see their colouring.

By the way im a guy, but dont worry about it.

Im surprised the water will remain above 20 even in winter, i guess the concept of mildly warm winters is just too Alien for us blizzard dwellers :p A pond of oscards would be quite cool, not sure how interesting they'd be to watch after a few weeks but still, a different idea to me!
