I got my Oscar when he was very little, about 2 inches long and I had him in a community 120 gallon with goldfish and other smaller fish and he never bothered any one of them. I seperated him into a different tank where he was alone. Now he is about 4 inches long and he is in a 55 gallon with a parrot cichlid. They mate often and the parrot cichlid lays eggs. Although they never fertilize, they get along very well and are a lot happier when they are together rather than being alone. 
Once they get bigger I will move them both into the 120 gallon. Good luck with finding your oscar a friend, if you have room that is.
