i noticed something wasnt quiet right in the oscar tank this morning, it was too still, so i put the lights on and found waldorf lying on the bottom, not on her side (sulking position) but just lying there as if she'd sank down. now i threw some food in, she perked up, but didnt do her usual enthusastic jumping around drenching me, then within minutes she sank back down to the bottom. Statler is looking ever so worried and swimming over to her to nudge her, she responds by swimming up but within minutes shes back down on the floor :(

im ever so worried

all water stats are normal 0 for ammonia and nitrite, 5 for nitrate, temp at 25

shes not laid eggs for over 3 months so that is a worry in itself, she has all her spikes up which she never does.

have posted in the emergencies section but normally they send me back over here so did a post here too.

oh gosh i hope she's gonna be ok

Was it just this morning that they've been acting like this?

The water stats seem fine and if your other oscar is behaving normally and theres no visible signs of illness I'd say just monitor the situation, I don't think theres much more you can do.

Do you know how old she is? Hate to say it but I remember on another forum a person's oscar acting like yours did, with other oscars swimming around them and giving them a nudge but it was their time to go. Having said that I don't want to be alarmist, it could just be she's having a bad day, I know my oscar sulks for the littleist of things and won't budge for a day if I just clean a piece of bogwood.

shes only around 18months- 24 months old. ive done a large water change and added a bacterial med as advised on the emergencies section and she seems to have perked up a little. im keeping my fingers crossed. having a day from hell as it is without my fish playing up.

Yeah, I really hoped it wouldn't be the worse case scenario, but the scene you descriped was so similar to others I've heard. Hope things work out well.

I have to say my oscar {oscar}will often lay on the floor sometimes for up to 1hour and even then gandulf will join him every so often two having a rest,,,oscars often do laze around once theyve grown big,,,it is usual for oscars to do this,i have spoken to many oscar keepers and its quite normal once big,,,,how is it when it comes to feeding time now?
they are lazy b$%£ers,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
keep monitoring them, my oscar has been doing this now for well over 6months and hes always fine :good:
