What would be good oscar tankmates in a 75 gallon tank? I was thinking eels or a firemouth.

And I was just wondering, but, would angels be okay? :)

angels would end up a snack.

mine sits and watches all the fish in my community tank when hes bored. if he has a tongue im sure hed lick his lips!

75g is pretty much the minimum needed for an oscar on its own but you could probably get away with a plec or maybe an eel.

not sure on the eel myself tho but i cant imagine there too heavy on the bioload.

I saw that you have a red tailed shark with your oscar. How does that work out? :)

I would like to have a eel, but what type?

ive had red tailed sharks and oscars together, they are perfect. the shark minds his own buisness as does the oscars, sounds like a good plan :) if you have a good enough filter you could get a fire eel coz they get very large and wouldnt be seen as a snack by the oscar .

You might be able to get away with a smaller cichlid like a firemouth.. oscars can be picky when it comes to tankmates.. I had to try 6-7 different fish to find a couple that were compatible.

If you're going to keep a tankmate with it I hope you've got lots of filtration!

I will get really good filteration and I will get:

1 oscar
1 red tailed shark
1 pleco of somesort
1 fire eel

:D

I'd do without the plec too - it'd be really pushing it, probably overcrowding. From my experience with my 135 US gallon tank, an oscar and a plec and company cause one hell of a lot of mess - and in a much smaller tank you'd be hard pushed to keep it clean and nitrates under control even with just the oscar and a plec. Besides, oscars love to take chunks out of plec fins

Hate to say it, but you should only get one of those 3 options. I'd skip the plec as well. A red tailed black shark would go quite nicely.

So you think a red tailed shark would work better than an eel? I like the sound of an eel better though. :)

I would get something like a convict, only get to around 6 inches, but should get along with the oscar, because of the oscar's size advantage.
