Hi, moved my oscar about 5 days ago from my 190 litre tank 2 my 400 litre one. he is about 7 inches long. but has not been eating since being in the new tank, previously in the 190 litre he used to come to my hand for feeding but now i havent seen him eat anything. he is in the tank with bala shark, blood parrot fish, silver dollars and plec. all fish are large but not as big as him. any clues why he is not eating? and how can i get him to?

thank you

oscars can go quite a long time without food, he is probably sulking( due to new tank), BUT saying that, i wouldnt be willing to leave one of mine too long without food, have you changed food or anything lately?
i would think he would be fine with those other fish, and i hope its just a strop he is pulling, but do me a favour and PM nelly, im sure he will give you very good advice, and if hes not on yet he will be shortly..

any physical signs of him being ill?
water tests ok?
temp ok?
any fighting/bullying that you have seen ( or bits missing off him?)?
is he pooing ok?
good luck m8 i hope it all gets sorted for you and him, i love oscars and hate to see them sulk but believe me it does happen :) and i hope thats all it is for you

I would say he's mosty likely having a good old sulk. I moved mine a few times and he did the same. Won't last long.

Worth checking the temperature though. If the new tank is colder it will slow him down and he wont have such an appetite. You could try raising it a few degrees. I'd also keep the lights off for a while as this will give him more confidence to explore the new tank for food.

Hi, thank you for your replies. no he looks fine in himself and is exploring the tank, just wont accept food. i have kept his staple diet of chilid pellets but also introduced peas, lettece and praws which he wont touch either. new tank was sliightly colder @ 25 so i had already turned up to 28 to c if it made a difference. seems a little more active tho stil not eaten anything. water conditions are fine except low ph (6.4) as posted earlier. so hopefully he is just sulking. the only thing i could think was that he was scared to feed around the new tankmates. is this possible?

Yeah, all part of the Sulking. I would'nt worry. If the waters all good and he's healthy hes not going to go hungry for long. Hes an Oscar!

hope your right lol i want him to outgrow tank asap so i have excuse to get another 1 lol thank you
