what is the best thing to feed an oscar at about 6-7 inches? thanks

thats sortta like asking people what their favorite color is. I personally don't really care for hikari, though many people use it due to shear avalibility. I personally use 2 different types of pellets with my cichlids and a variety of frozen foods.

pellets:

Marinelands

cichlid Bio-Blend

Omega One

medium and small cichlid pellets

Frozen Foods:

Cooked and peeled shrimp tails
raw scallops
blood worm
plankton
mosquito larvae
beef heart

The best fresh foods that most duplicate their natural diet are Krill, shrimp, prawns, crayfish, worms, insects, insect larva, and small fish. I can barely afford to eat scallops myself so I wouldn't feed them, but otherwise they sound like a nice gourmet meal for them.

Any meat from a mammal is not recommended, including chicken and beefheart.

Try live food, such as rosy reds or small gold fish. My Oscar could almost swallow a small goldfish and he's only about 3 inches at the biggest.

LOL yeah you would be surprised how far they can streach. 5.99/lbs and 1/2 a scallop will feed all of my fish and then some!!!!!
