Oscar Help

about a year ago i gave my 10" oscar back to my lfs because he couldnt live with anything so i turned his tank into a tropical community, but now the noverlty has worn off and they are boring so im thinking of getting a basby oscar again and some tank mates for it, which tankmates would be best for him as he grows ie he will live with and not eat, and does anyone know of a good place in lincolnshire i can get a red and an albino at the same time to save on the fighting when intruducing one later

and what happens when he gets boring? large oscars spend too long in LFS tanks due to the fact people have gotten bored with them..anyway my personal opinions aside.. what size tank are you thinking of adding them too?

Tank size will dictate what would be good tank mates for an Oscar, if your thinking of getting two, your looking at a large tank of 125g minimum.

the tank is 680l, so loads of room for a pair, i wont be getting bored with the oscars as i had the last 1 6 years and he was a great character the only reason i gave him to the lfs was because he was all alone in a 680l tank and no matter what i tried he would kill anything i put in with him, i even tried deviding the tank off but he went crazy and damaged his lower lip so it was in his best interest to go

In that size tank, for dithers, you could add silver dollars, for the lower regions, a good sized plec, or sydontis of good size, clown loaches (make sure they are reasonably sized to start with) Geophagus species, brasiliensis, altifrons etc, or if you want another cichlid, severums make good tank mates.

sorry i misread that.. i thought youd meant that the oscar was boring.. couldnt agree more on the small fish

ive got a choc cichlid ( beautiful fish) a sev,and a uaru in with my very small oscar..these will eventually be split between 2 tanks ( so soon as i find another

) but for the time being he gets on with them all.. but like i said hes a baby.. ive had oscars in the past that wouldnt tolerate anything more than a huge plec for comapny.. kinda hoping this one wont be the same

My Oscar is still a baby, 5" now, and he's as soft as anything, he doesn't mind who goes in the tank with him. Everyone else likes to take advantage of that though!
Oscars, like all cichlids, have different personalities so it's impossible to predict how they will get along. Though you have a big enough tank to give a lot of things a try!
I have mine with a GT, Severum, Keyhole, Ram, small Plec and a Birchir. He gets on fine with them all.

You will of course know that O's are greedy b$£$£34 and getting food past them for other fish can be tricky So get something spunky
